I work as a software developer and have worked for large companies like Amazon and feel confident in saying that this type incompetence would never be acceptable from a US subscription based company. Whether it’s malicious or due to incompetence is up for debate but my same plan went up in price twice while using it over a short period with no notifications via this ridiculous configuration. See anything fishy? It’s duplicated out like that so that they can change the subscription price for a plan without notifications. If you have an iPhone go to settings > iCloud > Apple ID > subscriptions > fishbrain Onto their business model, let’s look at it: Instead they should just not pull a value from their gps metadata storage field for image uploads with the private toggle, which is super easy, but they forgot to do it everywhere, probably because they’re handling this conditionally in the code rather than relying on flags in DB storage which is a common beginner programming mistake which requires duplicate code used to validate stuff like this all around the app which is prone to this type of error.
This shows a basic lack of competence from an engineering perspective, and it’s completely dishonest to those who think that they’re sharing their data privately. People can still find out where you’re catching though by going to the desktop app, navigating to a location with the map, clicking: fish report, and seeing your post there with a joke of a message saying “location hidden” after you’ve already navigated to it from the map. It allows you to submit your catch location as private.
